💧 The Pressure Builds: 19 Labour MPs Slam Severn Trent for Putting Profit Over Public Good💧
19 Labour MPs are publicly calling out Severn Trent for putting bonuses before basic infrastructure. Their letter could be a turning point — if more voices join in.
10 May 2025:
“There is much to be done to bring the industry up to a good standard… STW are not playing their part or taking the issue seriously.”
— Joint letter to Severn Trent CEO, 10 December 2024

While Severn Trent Water continues to make headlines for environmental damage, infrastructure failures, and financial double-dealing, the opposition is no longer just coming from local residents in Crowle, North Lincs.
It’s now gone national — with 19 Labour MPs co-signing a blistering letter to CEO Liv Garfield, raising many of the same concerns we’ve been documenting for months.
📨 What the Letter Says
Dated 10 December 2024, the letter challenges Severn Trent on:
✅ Using “accounting tricks” to avoid making mandated investments — while continuing to reward shareholders and executives. As exposed on BBCs’ Panorama, December 2024:
✅ Continuing sewage dumping and infrastructure neglect, despite record profits.
✅ Proposing a 46% rise in water bills over five years — far above the national average.
✅ Ongoing investigations by OFWAT for harmful wastewater treatment practices.
✅ Failing to deliver on promises to reduce harm to rivers by 2030.

📍 Why This Matters Here in Crowle
This isn’t abstract. It’s exactly what we’re seeing on the ground in North Lincolnshire:
Mud and raw sewage left in residential streets.
Heavy plant machinery on public roads — unmarked, unregistered, unregulated.
Wildlife displaced, drains obscured, footways blocked, houses shaken by diggers.
A council — and councillors — who refuse to hold Severn Trent accountable.
And of course, residents being silenced for daring to speak up.
What these MPs are calling out is not theoretical — it’s visible, documented, and still happening.
👥 Who Signed the Letter?
Among the 19 signatories:
David Williams (Stoke-on-Trent North)
Shaun Davies (Telford)
Cat Eccles (Stourbridge)
Gareth Snell (Stoke-on-Trent Central)
Sarah Edwards (Tamworth)
Sonia Kumar (Dudley)
…and many more Labour MPs across the Midlands who have had enough.
