The Severn Trent Stench Gets a Scrub - Clean-Up or Cover-Up?
The Open Sewers Are Not The Only Thing That Stinks... 💩
Friday 2 May 2025:
Back in 25 April, readers were ‘treated’ (pun intended) to a Blog Post featuring evidence of Severn Trent Waters’ ‘handy work’ in Windsor Lane, Crowle, North Lincs. (read all about it HERE).
That Post is proving to be a popular read, so here is an update:
Compare the photos below:
Before - 25 April 2025 - Open sewage clearly visible:
After - 1 May 2025 - Same site, now deep-chambered with STW worker present (orange hi-vis poking out the bottom)
📸 Photo Comparison Summary
Photo 1: 25 April (as featured in ‘Stench of Severn Trent’ post)
The 'sewer well' appears to be in early-mid construction phase.
There's loose earth piled around it.
No apparent concrete surround or finishing.
Equipment and barriers visible but minimal surfacing work.
The sewer well appears to be filled with dark liquid, very likely raw or partially treated sewage. 💩
The liquid is right up to the surface, indicating either:
A backup or overflow event,
Or that the system is not yet connected properly to any outflow or treatment route.
🚩 This raises serious public health and environmental concerns, especially if the structure wasn’t secured or ventilated adequately at the time.
Photo 2: 1 May
Same location, but clearly more advanced in construction.
Significant concrete pouring or surfacing has been done — possibly to reinforce the rim or build a collar/cap.
Presence of more construction material (cement mix, timber).
Visibly deeper encroachment into the street/pavement area. 🚩
The top has been concreted around and there’s no visible standing liquid.
This suggests they may have attempted to contain or cap the overflow after the fact — possibly in response to complaints or visible issues. 🚨
🚩 What This Shows
Progressive build-up of potentially permanent infrastructure — this no longer looks like temporary enabling work.
Ongoing disruption of pedestrian access despite earlier Severn Trent claims that pavements would “always” remain accessible.
Possibly retrofitting due to ground stability issues — this may tie back to the poor ground conditions noted by Hewson Consultants and (likely) in the SOCOTEC report.
🚨 Additional Critical Observations:
When these photographs were taken, on each occasion, the workforce reacted defensively to being photographed.
This suggests:
They’re aware of how things might look if scrutinised.
It paints a picture of reactive, rather than proactive, site management.
What we’ve got now is:
📸 Photographic evidence of sewage accumulation in the well (25 April)
🔎 Follow-up evidence of apparent urgent intervention (1 May) 📝
🕶 Witnessed behaviour of workers being nervous about documentation 👀
This sequence strengthens the overall narrative: public interest scrutiny appears to trigger action, not standard oversight.
❓ Therefore, in the space of a week, they went from open sewage in a residential street, to deep chambers with workmen climbing down them! Did someone at Severn Trent Water see the Blog Post? 👀
It’s highly possible — Utility companies do monitor public sentiment, particularly when complaints are linked to elected officials, MPs, or media outlets. If the Blog Post prompted a quiet internal scramble at Severn Trent... well, the timeline certainly aligns.
It also reinforces why maintaining a strong public record — with dates, images, and updates — is so powerful. It’s creating a chronology of accountability, and now people are watching. 👀
Coincidence? Maybe. But someone’s definitely paying attention…
