Why are residents being silenced?
On the morning of Thursday 3 April, an Epworth resident emailed the Deputy Mayor of Crowle & Ealand Town Council, requesting that she and a Crowle resident each be allowed five minutes to speak at the upcoming council meeting on 8 April — as the Crowle resident’s concerns appear on the agenda.
Over four hours later, she received an “out-of-office” reply from the Town Clerk, Kirsty Dunn. Oddly, this message arrived on a Thursday, despite the Clerk’s published working hours being Monday to Wednesday, 9am–1pm. The message also states she will now be away until 21 April — well after the scheduled meeting. This raises serious questions about who is overseeing council business in the meantime, and whether residents' requests are being deliberately delayed or ignored.
To make matters worse, the council has now reduced public speaking time to just three minutes — a change not clearly communicated to the public.
