Blurred Lines Between Council and Party Politics?
Another interesting development...
A few more things have come to light that really show just how poorly local engagement is being handled...
Recently, an official-looking letter was sent out to residents inviting them to attend a “statutory consultation” about the National Grid pylon project. It was signed off by the local ward councillors — but take a closer look at the return address:
Conservative Group Office, Church Square House, Scunthorpe, DN15 6HL. That’s a political office, not a neutral council department!
Here’s the thing — that’s the same building as North Lincolnshire Council’s head office! So now we’re left asking: is the Council being used as a political mailing hub? Are councillors blurring the lines between public duty and party campaigning?
It's hard not to question whether public resources and resident data are being used for party-political purposes?
Worse still — the letter was addressed to "Mr and Mrs" at the residents' household. There is no "Mrs" there. Given that councillors have access to electoral data, this raises red flags about misuse of personal information.
And just when you think it couldn’t get more slapdash— the heading of the letter was cut off due to a printing error, leaving just a faint "......ham Pylons from National Grid". Proofreading? Apparently not a priority.
These aren’t minor slip-ups. They reflect a deeper, worrying trend of poor communication, blurred responsibilities, and a lack of basic respect for residents’ rights and intelligence.
We’re being misinformed, misrepresented, and in some cases — like the Crowle resident who received this letter — outright silenced when legitimate questions were asked.
Next stop: a chat with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) to raise these concerns about data use.
Thanks again for your support — it really means a lot. The fight for transparency and accountability continues. The more we share, the harder it becomes for them to ignore.
👉 If you feel strongly about this, then consider sending an e-mail to Crowle Town Council or North Lincolnshire Council or even Councillor Julie Reed, and ask them why are residents being silenced?
